Jaguar Lister Le Mans Coupe - 7.0 V12 Twin Supercharged
Totally rebuilt - The best example of a Lister Le Mans in the World.
Registration: 1992 (Built 1991)
Jaguar Lister Le Mans Coupe – 6Spd Manual – 7.0 V12 Twin Supercharged.
We needed to find the best example possible of the ultra-rare Jaguar Lister Le Mans Coupe with the manual box and twin supercharged 7.0 V12. (Just listen to the video below…They sound like a WW2 Spitfire).
Very few of these ‘Full-Fat’ 604bhp Le Mans were actually built by Laurence Pearce and his team at Listers, so we were rather chuffed when we found this car.
Note: These cars seemingly come up at auction and are described as a ‘Le Mans’, but usually are not actually factory cars, and are more often than not a MK3 Lister XJS with a 6.0, 7.0 or 7.0 S/C engine fitted. The correct spec of a factory Le Mans car would be a car with a modified rear window, where you have a sloping glass and you loose the flying buttress look of the XJS. The side windows were extended to the rear C-Pillar, the floorpan/seats were modified and moved by two inches to allow for extra legroom. The nose had the longer bonnet that did away with the XJS grille. In total, we seem to think that around 7 cars were built to this 604bhp spec, and we managed to track down 4 of them, including the famous Fast Lane car that appeared in the April 1991 edition of the magazine. (Still possibly available….)
A little history….
The Lister design was a boyhood dream for me, but as with so many small run production cars, there are/were issues with the construction methods, where the bodykits were attached using expanding foam. This results in the dreaded tin-worm getting into the lower half of the car quite badly, and this has caused many more issues with rust, even compared with a standard XJS. Even the most lovely looking examples can have horror stories lurking beneath the bodykits. That’s where this car (And the red twin) depart from the normal, the previous owner took it upon himself to restore these cars as a labour of love over a 7yr period. The standard and detail of his work is of the finest quality, with no plans ever thought of within the process to ever sell either of the cars. Every detail is to the highest possible, and most painstaking standard.
The cars were stripped back to the shell, new carbon fibre bodykits were made, engines rebuilt and many modifications and improvements made in every area of the design. New glass was manufactured, interiors re-trimmed to the bring the cars to a much better quality than the 1980’s fit and finish.
A truly epic car, that in its day adorned many a young lads bedroom wall, mine included. Some very lucky people have now grown up and are able to buy the dream, and this car is the very best example of a Lister Le Mans Coupe 7.0 V12 Twin Supercharged that has ever graced tarmac for sure.
Do you you want the best???
We could go into so much more detail with this car, as we have been fortunate enough to be dealing with a man of ‘total detail’ in regard to every aspect of these cars. Every record and note of the cars time with him and their restoration has been meticulously recorded. Should you have an interest in the red car, the ‘Fast Lane’ car, Lister Storm (Yep..) or even a stunning 13,000 mile XJS 6.0….please get in touch and we can always speak to the owner. There is no current plan to sell any of these cars, but as time passes this will change, and we are confident that the cars would be sold via Shmoo Automotive Ltd.
