Summary

DEPOSIT TAKEN……and SOLD.

1968 Mustang Fastback 289 4 Speed Manual    – Matching numbers – Last two owners had the car for nearly 30yrs between them.

As you can see this car is simply beautiful and in just about ‘perfect’ condition (And we don’t very often use the ‘P’ word at Shmoo).

Subject to a 6.5yr nut and bolt rebuild, this car has been gone through with a fine-toothed comb and stands up to any inspection.

The car is still wearing all of its original panels and has never had any arches or repair panels.  The only welding was to a floor pan that was replaced when the restoration was carried out. (See the details of this in the attached article).

We are selling the car for the current custodian who has gone to extremes to make this car ‘just so’.  The attention to detail, love and dedication shown to this car in his ownership is something that very many people aspire to… but only very few ever actually achieve.  The sort of restoration and care reserved for cars of far greater value and would only ever be carried out by someone doing it for the love of the car and the story behind it.

It would be very difficult in our opinion to find another car for sale that comes close to this car and it’s not a car you want to miss if this is your dream spec Mustang!

Speaking of the spec…It’s the one we’d all want, a ’68 fastback, 4 speed manual and a matching numbers fully rebuilt 289 V8.

It’s a sweet engine and as much as we all might think we want a huge unit, in the real world, practical classic car ownership land the smooth 289 is the car to drive on the busy roads we all now have to deal with.

Price wise, these cars are just going up and up.  The best examples of any classic car are still soaring and this car is certainly ‘One of the best examples’ out there.

Exterior

Gleaming chrome and that gorgeous 'All American' Candy Apple Red paintwork covering its original pin straight body panels makes this car stand out from the crowd and do all the talking required.

Interior

Fully refurbished interior with a '67 brushed ally interior as opposed to the '68 woodgrain.  Done out of preference and we can't argue with that as we prefer it as well having had a '68 Shelby GT350 ourselves in the past.

The interior was gone through with an expensive covering of Dynamat Extreme sound-deadening as well to further improve the quality feel of the original car.

Engine Bay

Rebuilt original engine with some mild improvements like higher lift cams, Edelbrock intake manifold etc.  The engine wasn't really in need of anything but like with everything else the owner wanted it 'just so'.

Some nice touches are the custom made radiator and the Ring Brothers billet aluminium bonnet hinges.  These cost £500 alone and are a work of modern art.

The A/C system wasn't put back after the rebuild as although ice-cold and fully operational he preferred the cleaner look to the engine bay.  All of the parts are with the car and it's not a huge job to re-fit should the next owner feel the need for A/C.  (It wasn't a standard feature on all '68 cars but an option.. so it's down to personal preference).

Magazine Article

The car was featured in a magazine in late 2013 and many more details of the cars history are held within this feature.  Once you've read through and looked at the photos please call for an appointment to view or discuss purchase.

Paperwork

The car comes with a raft of invoice and photos showing the work carried out over the 6.5yr restoration in the UK and also from the cars time with the previous owner in Texas that take the history back well into the 1980's.  (Since the article was written the hard-drive was mainly recovered and photos found...phew!)

It comes with a Marti Report that shows all the options and it all stacks up correctly against the car as you would expect.

Examples of the photos and paperwork will be presented here and made available in full to anyone making an appointment to view the car.
