Ferrari Mondial 500 Replica (SD500) – Car No1
PLEASE NOTE: There are 4 rare magazine articles scanned below that will explain in great depth about the design, the stunning attention to detail and the driving characteristics of this very car. Please take 15 mins to read them and then call or email should you have any other questions.
This car is number one of the first pair constructed by Stan Daniels, along with his white car, that he still owns to this day.
Only 12 cars were finished/made and we sold one of the others 5yrs ago. (See Page 7 of our SOLD Section).
This car has been owned by the current keeper on the V5 since 2002 when he bought it directly from Stan Daniels.
This V5 denotes the car as a ERRA Mondial 500 of Feb 1977.
Lovely patina that gives this car a look of a 1955 racer, great fun!
Powered by a twin cam four pot 105 NORD unit from an Alfa GTV/Alfetta with a transverse gearbox, very much like the original Ferrari set-up (More detail within the magazine articles).
To clarify the body is made from exceptionally well made GRP/Fibreglass, again read the articles for much more detail about the construction and attention to detail.
In the words of the current owner…
“I happened to meet Stan and family and was involved with the sale of ‘The Shooting Box’ in 2002 (their former home)
I loved the car when I saw it and commented that I would love to own something like that.
To my amazement sometime later Stan agreed to sell it to me as he was moving and would not have the as much covered parking, plus he still owned the white one.
I have loved owning the car, it really puts a smile on your face when you drive it, and is a talking point wherever it goes.
There maybe a handful of similar cars spread across the globe, 12 were built under the Stan and Hawkridge tie up before the rights were sold to a company in New Zealand. However there are only two that were meticulously built by Stan himself, this is his first car and literally took him 1000’s of hours to complete.”
A very interesting car with attention to detail that is talked about at great length in the 3 magazine articles below. Enjoy.
The original and genuine Ferrari – Jaeger instruments alone are worth a fortune….
Photos included of the engine bay and the replica Ferrari engine cover that Stan had made. The last photo shows an example of what that looks like fitted to an SD500.
